2011 Publications
It's awards season and time for a little self-promotion.  I found Mary Robinette Kowal's SFWA post on "How to deal with self-promotion and award season" encouraging, so here goes:

"Where Sea and Sky Kiss" appeared in Daily Science Fiction in early October.  This is the second spec fic story I've written and dear to me for a couple reasons: The gender of the protagonist is never stated, nor does the reader need to know--and I hope that allows readers to read themselves into the story more easily. I also feel the story conveys the peculiar mix of joy and grief we meet at the (inevitable) crossroads of love and loss.

Two of my poems were published this year: "the boy in the cardboard box" in Goblin Fruit's Autumn issue and "'cubus" in the recently released fourth issue of Fantastique Unfettered (I'll happily forward a copy of my poem to anyone who wants to read it). The first is deeply personal, written in the first few days that I began writing poetry again--and rediscovered a part of myself I'd almost forgotten. The second is a macabre response to the male gaze and the tropes of predation-masquerading-as-love in popular media (like Twilight and True Blood).

And it's a lovely story. I just met a friend of yours, M. David Blake, at the SFWA forums :) You should consider joining as an associate!

Excited about FU - they've been doing cool things lately.

Thank you! Yes, I'm very impressed with Alexa's work with FU.

I'm still mulling whether to join SFWA now or after I get a third pro story sale.

Marc is great, btw! We realized well after the event that we had sat beside each other at a panel at NASFIC, then come to find out we live in the same town! Did you get a chance to read his 'Absinthe Fish'? It's one of my favorite stories from Bull Spec this past year.

I didn't get a chance to read his story.

If you join now, you could nominate work (just saying). It's actually fun, and I see a lot of associate people in the forums.

I should ask him for Absinthe Fish!

BTW, I have one of my own very favorite stories at Bull Spec now, the one I think you might enjoy :) Please keep fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed!!!

Toss me a copy of "cubus", would you?

Will do! Thanks!

Congrats on your recent sales. I would like to read 'cubus too, if you don't mind. Sounds interesting. I enjoyed "the boy in the cardboard box." Heading off to read your DSF story now . . .
Glad to hear you didn't wait to join SFWA. There's a ramp-up period in learning about the organization and it's best to start as soon as you can.

Thank you, Diane! I'll send 'cubus along via email.

(I still need to wade into the SFWA forums... Maybe later today. ;-)
